The pursuit of a “big year” in birding is a rigorous challenge, but for brothers Quinton and Owen, it began less as a competition and more as a journey of discovery. Setting out in a humble 2010 Kia Sedona minivan, their goal was to see more than 751 bird species across the lower 48 states. What started as an extreme learning experience for two novices quickly evolved into a grueling and transformative odyssey that tested their resolve and redefined their understanding of the natural world.
