Ebola outbreak is outpacing response in DR Congo — what’s going wrong?

A deadly Ebola outbreak is spreading in Central Africa pushing health workers to the limit. In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, more than 200 suspected deaths have been reported, with new cases also confirmed in neighboring Uganda. The World Health Organization says the outbreak is now growing faster than response efforts.
On the ground, the situation is becoming increasingly chaotic. Mongbwalu Hospital near the DRC’s eastern border with Uganda has been attacked and burned by local groups, forcing staff to evacuate and allowing potentially infected patients to escape. With rising fear and resistance among local communities, containment is becoming even harder.
